THE SURVIVAL

Various excerpts from the URANTIA Book

Paper 2: Section 3 (A Divine Counselor)

2:3.2 (36.7) How futile and puerile it is to appeal to such a God to alter his immutable decrees so as to spare us the just operating consequences of his wise natural laws and righteous spiritual commandments! “Make no mistake about it. We do not make fun of God, because what a man sows, that too he will reap. It is true that even when this justice reaps the harvest of evil deeds, this divine justice is always tempered with mercy. Infinite wisdom is the eternal arbiter who determines the proportions of justice and mercy that will be dispensed in given circumstances. The greatest punishment (which is actually an inevitable consequence) for breaking the law and willfully rebelling against the government of God is the loss of existence as an individual subject of that government. The end result of willful sin is annihilation. In the final analysis, individuals who have identified with sin have destroyed themselves by becoming utterly unreal through embracing iniquity. However, the actual demise of these creatures is always delayed until the established and current order of justice in the universe concerned has been fully observed.

2:3.3 (37.1) Cessation of existence is usually decreed in the judgment of the kingdom or kingdoms, which takes place in a dispensational time. On a world like Urantia, it takes place at the end of a planetary dispensation. At such times, cessation of existence may be decreed by the co-ordinated action of all courts of jurisdiction ranging from the planetary council, through the courts of the Creator Son, to the courts of judgment of the Ancients of Days. THE command of dissolution proceeds from the superior courts of the superuniverse upon unbroken confirmation of accusation from the sphere of residence of the offender. Then, when the sentence of extinction has been confirmed in high places, the execution takes place by a direct act of the judges who reside at the headquarters of the superuniverse and operate therefrom.

2:3.4 (37.2) When this sentence is finally confirmed, the being identified with sin instantly becomes as if it had not existed. Such a spell does not involve resurrection, it is perpetual and eternal. The living energy factors of identity dissolve, through the transformations of time and the metamorphoses of space, into the cosmic potentials from which they once emerged. As for the personality of the iniquitous being, it is deprived of a continuous vital vehicle because this creature has not made the final choices and decisions which would have assured it eternal life. When the associated mind has been continually indulged in sin until it has come to complete self-identification with iniquity, then, after life ceases and cosmic dissolution, this isolated personality is absorbed into the oversoul of creation. and becomes part of the evolutionary experience of the Supreme Being. Never again does she appear as a personality. Her identity becomes as if it had never been. If it is an Adjuster-inhabited personality, the experiential spirit values survive in the continuing Adjuster reality.

PAPER 5 Section 1 (A Divine Counselor)

5:1.11 (64.2) Mortal man can draw near to God while again and again forsaking the divine will, and so long as he retains the power to choose. His final loss is not decided until he has lost the power to choose the will of the Father. The Father never closes his heart to the needs and petitions of his children. It is only his offspring who close their hearts forever to the drawing power of the Father when they finally and permanently lose the desire to do his divine will — which is to know him and to be like him. At the same time, man’s eternal destiny is assured when his Adjuster fusion proclaims to the universe that this ascender has made the final and irrevocable choice to live out the will of God.

5:1.12 (64.3) The great God establishes direct contact with mortal man by giving a fraction of his infinite, eternal, and incomprehensible self which will live and dwell in him. God embarked on the eternal adventure with man. If you comply with the directions of the spiritual forces within and around you, you cannot fail to attain the high destiny which a loving God has established as the universal goal for creatures ascending from the evolutionary worlds of the space.

PAPER 5 Section 5 (A Divine Counselor)

5:5.13 (69.8) Eternal personality survival is entirely dependent on the choice of mortal mind, whose decisions determine the survival potential of the immortal soul. When the mind believes God, the soul knows God, and with the stimulating Adjuster all desire God, then survival is assured. Neither limitations of intellect, nor educational restrictions, nor deprivations of culture, nor impoverishment of social status, nor even a lower moral standard resulting from an unfortunate absence of educational, cultural and social advantages can invalidate the presence of divine spirit in individuals thus devoid of luck and humanly handicapped, but believers. The indwelling presence of the Mystery Monitor inaugurates and enables the potential for immortal soul growth and survival.

5:5.14 (70.1) The ability of mortal parents to procreate is not based on their educational, cultural, social, or economic status. The union of parental factors under natural conditions is completely sufficient to ensure offspring. A human mind, discerning between good and evil, possessing the ability to worship God, in union with a divine Adjuster, represents to a mortal all that is required to trigger and foster the production of his immortal soul with its survival qualities. provided such a spirited individual seeks God, sincerely desires to be like him, and honestly chooses to do the will of the Father in heaven.

PAPER 5 Section 6 (A Divine Counselor)

5:6.7 (71.2) The material self has personality and identity, temporal identity. The Adjuster, prepersonal spirit, also has an identity, an eternal identity. This material personality and this spiritual prepersonality are able to unite their creative attributes in such a way as to bring into being the surviving identity of the immortal soul.

5:6.8 (71.3) Having thus provided for the growth of the immortal soul and freed the inner self of man from the chains which made it absolutely dependent on former causes, the Father stands apart. Thus, man has been freed from the chains of the law of cause and effect, at least as far as his eternal destiny is concerned, and the soul, the immortal self, has what it takes to grow; it is now up to man himself to will or inhibit the creation of that surviving and eternal self that he has the ability to choose. No other being, force, creator or agent in the vast universe of universes can interfere in any degree with the absolute sovereignty of human free will operating in the realms of option concerning the eternal destiny of the personality of the choosing mortal. . As for eternal survival, God has decreed that the material and human will is sovereign, and this decree is absolute.

PAPER 12 Section 8 (A Perfector of Wisdom)

12:8.15 (140.11) In cosmic evolution matter becomes a philosophical shadow cast by mind in the presence of the spirit luminosity of divine illumination, but this does not invalidate the reality of matter-energy . Mind, matter, and spirit are equally real, but do not have equal value for the personality seeking to attain divinity. Awareness of divinity is a progressive spiritual experience.

12:8.16 (141.1) The more the spiritualized personality shines (the Father in the universe, the fragment of potential spirit personality in the individual creature), the greater is the shadow cast by the intermediate mind upon its material covering. In time, the body of men is just as real as their mind or spirit, but in death the mind (identity) and spirit survive, while the body does not. A cosmic reality may not exist in personality experience. That is why your figure of Greek speech — matter is the shadow of the more real spirit substance — does have philosophical significance.

PAPER 12 Section 9 (A Perfector of Wisdom)

12:9.6 (142.1) Mortals have a spirit core. The mind is a personal energy system existing around a divine spirit core and functioning in a material environment. This living relationship between personal mind and spirit constitutes the universe potential of eternal personality. Real difficulties, lasting disappointments, serious defeats or inevitable death c an arise only if egocentric concepts claim to completely oust the governing power of the central spiritual core, thereby disrupting the cosmic blueprint of personality identity.

PAPER 15 Section 12 (A Universal Censor)

15:12.2 (180.3) The courts of the Ancients of Days are the high courts for the spiritual judgment of all the universes dependent upon them. The Sovereign Sons of the local universes are supreme in their proper domain. Except in cases involving the annihilation of will creatures, they are dependent upon the supergovernment only in so far as they voluntarily submit matters to it for the counsel or judgment of the Ancients of Days. Writs of judgment are issued in the local universes, but sentences involving the annihilation of will creatures are always made at the headquarters of the superuniverses and carried out from there. The Sons of the local universes can decree the survival of mortal man, but only the Ancients of Days can pronounce binding judgment on matters of eternal life and death.

15:14.1 (181.7) The evolution of the seven superuniverses brings forth seven major goals. Each major goal of superuniverse evolution will find its fullest expression only in one of the seven superuniverses, and therefore each superuniverse has a special function and a unique nature.

15:14.2 (182.1) Orvonton, the seventh superuniverse, that to which your local universe belongs, is chiefly known for its immense and lavish outpouring of merciful ministry to the mortals of the realms. It is renowned for the way in which justice tempered by mercy prevails and power conditioned by patience is exercised, while sacrifices of time are generously made there to ensure the stabilization of eternity. Orvonton is, in the universe, a demonstration of love and mercy.

PAPER 28 Section 6 (Un Puissant Messager)

28:6.5 (314.4)2. The Memory of Mercy. These are the actual, full and replete, living records of the mercy which has been extended to individuals and races by the tender ministrations of the instrumentalities of the Infinite Spirit in the mission of adapting the justice of righteousness to the status of the realms, as disclosed by the portrayals of the Significance of Origins. The Memory of Mercy discloses the moral debt of the children of mercy—their spiritual liabilities—to be set down against their assets of the saving provision established by the Sons of God. In revealing the Father’s pre-existent mercy, the Sons of God establish the necessary credit to insure the survival of all. And then, in accordance with the findings of the Significance of Origins, a mercy credit is established for the survival of each rational creature, a credit of lavish proportions and one of sufficient grace to insure the survival of every soul who really desires divine citizenship.

28:6.6 (314.5) The Memoir of Mercy is a living record, an up-to-date account of your account with the supernatural forces of the realms. These living records of the ministry of mercy are read into testimony before the courts of Uversa when each individual’s right to perpetual life comes into judgment, when “the thrones are set and the Ancients of Days take their seat.” Uversa telecasts are broadcast and come out in front of them; thousands and thousands of beings bring their ministry to them, and ten thousand times ten thousand stand before them, the tribunal sits and the books are opened. And the books which are opened on such an important occasion are the living records of the tertiary seconaphim of the superuniverses. The official annals are on file to corroborate, if necessary, the testimony of the Memoirs of Mercy.

28:6.7 (314.6) The Mercy Record is to show that the savings credit opened by the Sons of God has been fully and faithfully utilized in the loving ministry of the patient personalities of the Third Source and Center. But, when mercy is dried up, when the “memory” testifies to its exhaustion, then justice prevails and righteousness decrees. For mercy is not meant to be imposed on those who despise it; mercy is not a gift to be trampled on by the persistent rebels of time. Nevertheless, though mercy is so precious and tenderly bestowed, your individual credit balances still far exceed your ability to exhaust the supply, if you are sincere in your purpose and honest in your heart.

PAPER 30 Section 0 = (A Mighty Messenger) = (glorified mortal in Havonna)

30:0.2 (330.2) It is impossible to formulate detailed, complete, and entirely consistent classifications of the personalities of the grand universe, because their groups are not all revealed. Many additional papers would be needed to cover the full revelation to systematically classify all groups. Such a conceptual expansion would hardly be desirable, for it would deprive the mortal thinkers of the next millennium of the stimulus provided for creative speculation by the partial revelation of previous concepts. It is better for men not to receive excessive revelation; it stifles the imagination.

Division 4

30:4.11 (341.1) 2. Sleeping Survivors. All mortals of survival status and in the care of a personal destiny guardian cross the threshold of natural death and personalize on the mansion world in the third period. Accredited beings who, for whatever reason, have not been capable of attaining that level of mastery of intelligence and endowment of spirituality which would entitle them to personal guardian angels cannot go immediately and directly to the mansion world in this way. These surviving souls must rest in an unconscious sleep until the judgment day of a new age, a new dispensation, the coming of a Son of God calling the roll of the age and judging the kingdom. This is the general practice throughout Nebadon. It was said of Christ Michael that during his ascension into heaven, which ended his work on earth, “he led a multitude of captives”. These captives were sleeping survivors from the days of Adam until the day of the Master’s resurrection on Urantia.

30:4.12 (341.2) The passage of time is of no importance to sleeping mortals; they are totally oblivious and forgetful of the duration of their rest. When reassembling their personality at the end of an age, those who have slept for five thousand years will react no differently than those who have rested for five days. Apart from this delay in time, these survivors go through the regime of ascension just like those who avoid the more or less long sleep of death.

30:4.13 (341.3) These dispensational classes of world pilgrims are utilized for group morontia activities in the work of the local universes. There is a great advantage in mobilizing such huge groups; they are thus kept together for long periods of effective service.

30:4.14 (341.4) 3. Students of the mansion worlds. All surviving mortals who awaken on the mansion worlds belong to this class.

30:4.15 (341.5) The physical body of mortal flesh is not part of the reassembly of the sleeping survivor; the physical body has returned to dust. The seraphim of assignment sponsors the new body, the morontia form, as the new life vehicle for the immortal soul and as the abode of the anew indwelling Adjuster. The Adjuster is the custodian of the spiritual record of the sleeping survivor’s mind. The affected seraphim is the guardian of the surviving identity — the immortal soul — in the state where she has evolved. And when both the Adjuster and the guardian angel bring together the personality elements entrusted to them, the new individual constitutes the resurrection of the old personality, the survival of the evolving morontia soul identity. . Such reassociation of soul and Adjuster is properly called resurrection; it is a reassembly of personality factors, but even this does not entirely explain the reappearance of the surviving personality. Although you will probably never understand the fact of such an inexplicable operation, you will one day know the truth by experience if you do not reject the human survival plan.

PAPER 31 – Section 3 (A Divine Counselor and One Without Name and Number) = Glorified Mortal

31:3.4 (348.1) 1. We know from the records that mortals are classed as first order spirits while in the minor sectors, that they gain the second order when transferred to the major sectors, and the third when they progress to the central training worlds of the superuniverse. Mortals become quaternary or graduate spirits upon arriving at the sixth circle of Havona, and fifth-order spirits upon finding the Universal Father. They subsequently attain the sixth stage of spirit existence by taking the oath which enlists them forever in the eternal assignment of the Corps of Mortal Finality.

31:3.5 (348.2) We observe that the classification or designation of spirits is determined by their actual advancement from one universe service realm to another universe service realm, or from one universe to another universe. We assume that the bestowal of seventh-order spirit classification on the Mortal Corps of the Finality will take place at the same time as its members are promoted to eternal assignment of service on hitherto unrecorded and unrevealed spheres, and that it will coincide with their attainment of God the Supreme. But, aside from these bold assumptions, we really don’t know any more about it than you do; our knowledge of mortal careers does not extend beyond the present Paradise destiny.

31:3.6 (348.3) 2. Mortal finaliters have fully obeyed the injunction of the ages: “Be perfect”; they have ascended the mortal culmination path; they found God and were duly installed in the Corps of Finality. These beings have reached the presently accessible limit of spiritual progression, but not the finality of ultimate spiritual status. They have arrived at the presently attainable limit of creature perfection, but not at the finality of creature service. They have experienced the worship of Deity in its fullness, but not the finality of experiential Deity attainment.

31:3.7 (348.4) 3. The glorified mortals of the Paradise Finality Corps are ascendant beings possessing experiential knowledge of every stage of actuality and the fullest possible life philosophy of intelligent existence. During the ages of their ascension from the lowest material worlds to the spiritual heights of Paradise, these surviving creatures have been instructed to the limit of their abilities in every detail of all divine principles concerning just and efficient administration, as well as merciful and patient, of all universal creation of time and space.

31:3.8 (348.5) We believe that human beings are entitled to share our opinions and that you are free to speculate with us about the mystery of the ultimate destiny of the Paradise Finality Corps. It seems evident to us that the present assignments of perfected evolutionary creatures partake of the nature of the specialized studies of universal understanding and superuniverse administration. And we all ask the question, “Why are the Gods so interested in training surviving mortals so thoroughly in the technique of universe management?” »

PAPER 40 Section 9 (A Mighty Messenger)

40:9.7 (451.3) Even with Adjuster-fusion candidates, only those human experiences which were of spiritual value are common possessions of the surviving mortal and the returning Adjuster and hence are immediately remembered subsequent to mortal survival. Concerning those happenings which were not of spiritual significance, even these Adjuster-fusers must depend upon the attribute of recognition-response in the surviving soul. And since any one event may have a spiritual connotation to one mortal but not to another, it becomes possible for a group of contemporary ascenders from the same planet to pool their store of Adjuster-remembered events and thus to reconstruct any experience which they had in common, and which was of spiritual value in the life of any one of them.Even among candidates for Adjuster fusion, only those human experiences which had spiritual value are the common property of the surviving mortal and the returning Adjuster, and are

40:9.8 (451.4)While we understand such techniques of memory reconstruction fairly well, we do not grasp the technique of personality recognition. Personalities of onetime association mutually respond quite independently of the operation of memory, albeit, memory itself and the techniques of its reconstruction are necessary to invest such mutual personality response with the fullness of recognition.

FASCICULE 47 Section  3. The First Mansion World (A Bright Evening Star) “Super-Angel” Local Universe Staff

47:3.1 (532.7)On the mansion worlds the resurrected mortal survivors resume their lives just where they left off when overtaken by death. When you go from Urantia to the first mansion world, you will notice considerable change, but if you had come from a more normal and progressive sphere of time, you would hardly notice the difference except for the fact that you were in possession of a different body; the tabernacle of flesh and blood has been left behind on the world of nativity.

47:3.2 (532.8)The very center of all activities on the first mansion world is the resurrection hall, the enormous temple of personality assembly. This gigantic structure consists of the central rendezvous of the seraphic destiny guardians, the Thought Adjusters, and the archangels of the resurrection. The Life Carriers also function with these celestial beings in the resurrection of the dead.

47:3.3 (533.1) 3. The First Mansion World

The mortal-mind transcripts and the active creature-memory patterns as transformed from the material levels to the spiritual are the individual possession of the detached Thought Adjusters; these spiritized factors of mind, memory, and creature personality are forever a part of such Adjusters. The creature mind-matrix and the passive potentials of identity are present in the morontia soul intrusted to the keeping of the seraphic destiny guardians. And it is the reuniting of the morontia-soul trust of the seraphim and the spirit-mind trust of the Adjuster that reassembles creature personality and constitutes resurrection of a sleeping survivor.

FASCICULE 47 Section 44. The Second Mansion World

47:4.5 (535.1)Your Adjuster memory remains fully intact as you ascend the morontia life. Those mental associations that were purely animalistic and wholly material naturally perished with the physical brain, but everything in your mental life which was worth while, and which had survival value, was counterparted by the Adjuster and is retained as a part of personal memory all the way through the ascendant career. You will be conscious of all your worth-while experiences as you advance from one mansion world to another and from one section of the universe to another—even to Paradise.

47:4.6 (535.2)Though you have morontia bodies, you continue, through all seven of these worlds, to eat, drink, and rest. You partake of the morontia order of food, a kingdom of living energy unknown on the material worlds. Both food and water are fully utilized in the morontia body; there is no residual waste. Pause to consider: Mansonia number one is a very material sphere, presenting the early beginnings of the morontia regime. You are still a near human and not far removed from the limited viewpoints of mortal life, but each world discloses definite progress. From sphere to sphere you grow less material, more intellectual, and slightly more spiritual. The spiritual progress is greatest on the last three of these seven progressive worlds.

l’âme survivante. Or, tout évènement peut avoir une valeur spirituelle pour un mortel sans en avoir pour un autre.

the surviving soul. However, any event can have a spiritual value for a mortal without having any for another. It is therefore possible for a group of contemporary ascenders from the same planet to pool their store of Adjuster-remembered events, and thus reconstruct any experience they have had together which had spiritual value in the life of one of them.

40:9.8 (451.4) We are quite familiar with the techniques of memory reconstruction, but we do not grasp the technique of personality recognition. Personalities which have once been associated react to each other quite independently of the operations of memory; and yet memory itself and its techniques of reconstruction are necessary to confer upon this mutual personal reaction the fullness of recognition.

PAPER 47 Section 3 (A Brilliant Evening Star) “Local Universe Personnel “Super-Angel”

47:3.1 (532.7) On the mansion worlds resurrected mortal survivors pick up the thread of their lives exactly where they left off when they were overtaken by death. Going from Urantia to the first mansion world you will notice a considerable change, but if you had come from a more normal and progressive sphere of time you would hardly have noticed the difference except for the fact that you find yourself in possession of another body; the tabernacle of flesh and blood was left behind on the nativity world.

47:3.2 (532.8) The true center of all activity on the first mansion world is the resurrection hall, the colossal temple of reconstituted personalities. This gigantic construction is the central meeting place of the seraphic guardians of destiny, the Thought Adjusters and the resurrection archangels. The Life Carriers also work with these celestial beings to raise the dead.

47:3.3 (533.1) The transcriptions of mortal mind and the working patterns of creature memory, transposed from the material to the spiritual levels, are the individual property of detached Thought Adjusters. These spiritualized factors of creature mind, memory and personality are forever an integral part of these Adjusters. The creature mind matrix and passive potentials of identity are present in the morontia soul entrusted to the custody of the seraphic guardians of destiny. And it is the reunion of the morontia soul entrusted to the seraphim and the spiritual mind entrusted to the Adjuster which reconstitutes the personality of the creature and constitutes the resurrection of the sleeping survivors.

PAPER 47 Section 4 (A Bright Evening Star)

47:4.5 (535.1) As you ascend through the morontia life, you fully retain the memory of your Adjuster. Mental associations which were purely animal and entirely material perished naturally with the physical brain, but all valuable things of your mental life which had survival value have had their counterpart established by the Adjuster and are retained as part of memory. personal throughout the ascending career. You will remain conscious of all your worthwhile experiences as you advance from one mansion world to another and from one section of the universe to another—even to Paradise.

47:4.6 (535.2) Although you have morontia bodies, you continue to eat, drink, and rest during your passage through the seven mansion worlds. You are taking in the foods of the morontia order, a realm of living energy unknown on the material worlds. The morontia body makes full use of food and water, but without residual waste. Consider for a moment: mansonia number one is a very material sphere exhibiting the beginnings of the morontia regime. You are still nearly human and not far removed from the limited viewpoints of earthly life, but each world brings definite progress. From sphere to sphere, you become less material, more intellectual and a little more spiritual. It is on the last three of these seven worlds of progress that spiritual progress is most accentuated.

PAPER 54 Section 3 (A Mighty Messenger)

3. The temporal delay of justice

54:3.1 (615.3) The moral will creatures of the evolutionary worlds are ever tormented by the thoughtless question of why the infinitely wise Creators permit evil and sin. They do not understand that evil and sin are inevitable if creatures are to be truly free. The free will of evolving men and exquisite angels is not a mere philosophical concept, a symbolic ideal. The ability of men to choose good or evil is a fact of the universe. This freedom to choose for oneself is a gift of the Supreme Rulers, and these forbid any being or group of beings, in the vast universe, to deprive a single personality of the freedom which is divinely given to him – not even to satisfy bewildered and ignorant beings in the enjoyment of what they wrongly call personal freedom.

54:3.2 (615.4) Although conscious and deliberate identification with evil (sin) is equivalent to non-existence (annihilation), there must always be a delay between the moment of personal identification with sin and the execution of punishment — which comes automatically when one willfully indulges in evil. This delay represents a period of time sufficient to judge the sinner’s universal status in a manner entirely satisfactory to all universe personalities connected with the case, and at the same time fair and just enough to win the sinner’s approval. himself.

54:3.3 (615.5) But if that rebel of the universe who goes against the reality of goodness and truth refuses to endorse the verdict, and if the culprit knows in his heart the justice of his condemnation, but refuses to confess it, then the execution of the sentence must be deferred according to the conveniences of the Ancients of Days. But the Ancients of Days refuse to annihilate a being before all moral values and spiritual realities are extinguished both in the author of evil and in all his possible supporters and sympathizers.

PAPER 54 Section 6 (A Mighty Messenger)

54:6.9 (620.1) One of the errors of human thought on this subject is to believe that all evolutionary mortals on an evolving planet would have chosen to enter the Paradise career if their world had not been cursed by sin. The ability to deny survival does not date from the time of Lucifer’s rebellion. Men have always possessed the gift of free will in choosing a Paradise career.

PAPER 110 Section 3 (A Solitary Messenger)

Cooperation with the Adjuster

110:3.1 (1205.5) The Adjusters are playing the sacred and magnificent game of the ages; they are engaged in one of time’s supreme adventures in space. How happy they are when your cooperation allows them to assist you in your brief temporal struggles as they continue to pursue their greater tasks of eternity! But when your Adjuster tries to communicate with you, his message usually gets lost in the material flux of the energy currents of the human mind; only occasionally do you hear an echo, a faint and distant echo of the divine voice.

110:3.2 (1205.6) Your Adjuster undertakes to pilot you through earth life and to complete your survival. Its success does not depend so much on the theories of your beliefs as on your decisions, your determinations and the firmness of your faith. All of these movements of personality growth become powerful influences contributing to your advancement, because they help you to co-operate with the Adjuster and to cease resisting it. In their earthly endeavors the Thought Adjusters succeed or seem to fail just in proportion as mortals succeed or fail in co-operating with the plan for lifting them on the ascending path to perfection. The secret of survival is shrouded in the supreme human desire to be like God, and the corresponding willingness to do and be whatever is essential to ultimately satisfying that overriding desire.

110:3.3 (1206.1) When we speak of Adjuster success or failure, we speak from the standpoint of human survival. The Adjusters never fail; they are of divine essence and always emerge triumphant from each of their undertakings.

110:3.4 (1206.2) I am bound to find that many of you spend so much time and mental effort on the insignificant things of life, while you almost entirely neglect the more essential realities that matter. eternal, precisely those accomplishments which concern the establishment of a more harmonious working arrangement between you and your Adjuster. The great purpose of human existence is to attune to the divinity of the indwelling Adjuster. The great achievement of mortal life is to come to truly and intelligently devote yourself to the eternal purposes of the divine spirit which waits and works in your mind. But a dedicated and determined effort to fulfill eternal destiny is entirely compatible with joy and joy in life, and with an honorable and successful earthly career. Cooperation with the Thought Adjuster does not involve torturing oneself, pretending to be pious, or humiliating oneself in a hypocritical and ostentatious way. The ideal life is to serve with love, rather than to lead a life of fearful apprehension.

110:3.5 (1206.3) To be bewildered, perplexed, and even at times discouraged and torn, does not necessarily mean resistance to the guidance of the indwelling Adjuster. These attitudes sometimes denote a lack of active co-operation with the Divine Monitor and may therefore retard spiritual progress somewhat, but, for the God-knowing soul, such intellectual emotional difficulties do not interfere in the least with the certainty of survive. Ignorance alone can never prevent survival, nor can confounding doubts or fearful uncertainty. Only conscious resistance to Adjuster guidance can prevent the survival of the evolving immortal soul.

PAPER 112 Section 2 (A Solitary Messenger)

112:3.2 (1229.9) 1. Spiritual death (of the soul). If a mortal rejects survival and when he has definitely rejected it; when it has been declared spiritually insolvent and morontially bankrupt on the joint opinion of the Adjuster and the surviving seraphim, when such coordinated notice has been recorded on Uversa, and after the Censors and their reflective associates have verified such findings, the leaders of Orvonton order the immediate release of the Inner Monitor. This Adjuster release, however, in no way affects the duties of the personal or collective seraphim who care for that Adjuster-abandoned individual. This kind of death has a definitive meaning, independent of the living energies which may temporarily continue to animate the physical and mental mechanisms. From the cosmic point of view, the person concerned is already dead. The continuation of life simply denotes the persistence of the material life force of the cosmic energies.

112:3.3 (1230.1) 2. Intellectual (mind) death. When the life circuits of the higher adjutant ministry are broken by the aberrations of the intellect, or by the partial destruction of the brain mechanism, and if this state of affairs passes a certain critical point where it has become irreparable, the indwelling Adjuster is immediately freed and leaves for Divinington. In the universe records a mortal personality is considered to have met death as soon as the essential mind circuits of human volitional action have been destroyed. And this is still death, regardless of whether the living mechanism of the physical body continues to function. Deprived of the volitional mind, the body has ceased to be human, but the soul of such an individual can survive; it depends on the previous choice of his human will.

112:3.4 (1230.2) 3. Physical death (body and mind). When death overtakes a human being, the Adjuster remains in the citadel of mind until it ceases to function as an intelligent mechanism, that is, approximately until the brain energies measurable cease their rhythmic vital pulsations. Following this disintegration, the Adjuster takes leave of the vanishing mind, with as little ceremony as he entered it a number of years before, and proceeds to Divinington via Uversa.

112:3.5 (1230.3) After death the material body returns to the elemental world whence it came, but two immaterial factors of the surviving personality persist: first, the pre-existing Thought Adjuster, with the transcribed memory of the mortal quarry, goes to Divinington; second, the immortal morontia soul of the departed is entrusted to the guardian of destiny. These phases and aspects of the soul, these once kinetic and now static formulas of identity, are essential for repersonalization on the morontia worlds; and it is the reunion of the Adjuster and the soul which reconstitutes the surviving personality, which makes you conscious again at the time of morontia awakening.

112:3.6 (1230.4) For those who have no personal seraphic guardians, the corporate preservers faithfully and effectively perform the same service of safeguarding of identity and resurrection of personality. Seraphim are indispensable for replenishing the personality.

112:3.7 (1230.5) At death the Thought Adjuster temporarily loses personality but not identity, while the human subject temporarily loses identity but not personality; on the mansion worlds the two unite in eternal manifestation. Never does a departed Adjuster return to earth with the identity of the being he previously inhabited. Never is the personality manifested without the human will; and never does a human being separated from his Adjuster after death manifest an active identity or establish any communication with living beings on earth. These Adjuster-separated souls are wholly and absolutely unconscious during the short or long sleep of death. There can be no manifestation of the personality of any kind, nor can there be any ability to enter into communications with other personalities before the completion of survival. Those who go to the mansion worlds are not permitted to send messages back to those they loved. It is policy in all universes to prohibit such communications during the term of the current dispensation.

PAPER 112 Section 4-5 (A Solitary Messenger)

112:4.12 (1231.12) If, at the time death overtakes you, you have attained the third circle or a higher realm, and as a result a personal guardian of destiny has been assigned to you, and if the final transcript of the summary of your survival character submitted by the Adjuster is unconditionally certified by the destiny keeper — if the seraphim and the Adjuster are in substantial agreement on every heading of their briefings and recommendations concerning your life — if the Universal Censors and their reflective associates on Uversa confirm this data unequivocally and unreservedly, so the Ancients of Days are flashing down the communications circuits leading to Salvington to raise your status. Thus covered, the courts of the Sovereign of Nebadon will decree the immediate passage of the surviving soul to the resurrection halls of the mansion worlds.

112:4.13 (1232.1) According to the information I receive, if the human individual survives forthwith, the Adjuster enrolls in Divinington, proceeds to Paradise before the person of the Universal Father, returns immediately to be embraced by the Personalized Adjusters of the superuniverse and local universe to which he is assigned, receives the confirmation of the chief Personalized Monitor of Divinington, and then proceeds immediately to the “making of identity transition.” Thence he is invited, in the third period and on the mansion world, to inhabit the very personality form prepared to receive the surviving soul of the earthly mortal as that form was projected by the guardian of destiny.

5. Survival of the human self

112:5.1 (1232.2) Selfhood is a cosmic reality, whether material, morontia, or spirit. The actuality of the personal state is the gift of the Universal Father acting of himself and by himself or by his multiple universal agents. To say that a being is personal is to recognize the relative individuation of such a being within the cosmic organism. The living cosmos is an almost infinitely integrated aggregate of real units, each of which is relatively subject to the destiny of the whole. But personal units have been endowed with the effective ability to choose between accepting and rejecting their destiny.

112:5.2 (1232.3) That which comes from the Father is eternal like the Father, and this is just as true of personality, which God gives by virtue of his freewill choice, as it is of the divine Thought Adjuster, the actual fragment of God. The personality of man is eternal, but, as to identity, it is a reality eternally conditioned. Because it arose in response to the will of the Father, the personality will attain a Deity destiny, but man must choose whether or not he will be present at the attainment of that destiny. In the absence of a positive choice, the personality directly attains experiential Deity by becoming a part of the Supreme Being. The cycle is preordained, but man’s participation in this cycle is optional, personal and experiential.

112:5.3 (1232.4) Mortal identity is a transient condition of universe temporal life. It is real only insofar as the personality chooses to become a continuing phenomenon of the universe. Here is the essential difference between man and an energy system: the energy system must continue, it has no choice, but man has everything to do with determining his own destiny. The Adjuster is indeed the path to Paradise, but it takes 110:3.1 (1205.5) The Adjusters are playing the sacred and magnificent game of the ages; they are engaged in one of time’s supreme adventures in space.

110.3. Co-operation with the Adjuster

110:3.1 (1205.5)Adjusters are playing the sacred and superb game of the ages; they are engaged in one of the supreme adventures of time in space. And how happy they are when your co-operation permits them to lend assistance in your short struggles of time as they continue to prosecute their larger tasks of eternity. But usually, when your Adjuster attempts to communicate with you, the message is lost in the material currents of the energy streams of human mind; only occasionally do you catch an echo, a faint and distant echo, of the divine voice.

PAPER 112 Section 2/3 (A Solitary Messenger)

112:3.5 (1230.3) After death the material body returns to the elemental world whence it came, but two immaterial factors of the surviving personality persist: first, the preexistent Thought Adjuster, with the transcribed memory of deadly quarry, travels to Divinington; second, the immortal morontia soul of the departed is entrusted to the guardian of destiny. These phases and aspects of the soul, these once kinetic and now static formulas of identity, are essential for repersonalization on the morontia worlds; and it is the reunion of the Adjuster and the soul which reconstitutes the surviving personality, which makes you conscious again at the time of morontia awakening.
